Its all in the mind.....

Working in a psycho-geriatric facility for the past one month is the beginning of another chapter in my life as a music therapist to be. I have the opportunity to work with patients with different mental health diagnosis such as major depression, schizophrenia, dementia, bipolar, who are experiencing behavioural problems, hallucinations, delusions, illusions etc. which made me realize how important it is to keep our minds healthy. I am currently taking a course in counselling and mental health which really helps me understand people better.

A lot of people have trouble overcoming their thoughts. When negative thoughts about themselves begin to play in their mind and when they are not able to overcome it, these thoughts grow and become serious mental health problems. And it is scary to know that, these problems are more prevalent today and can happen to any ordinary person.

I begin to see the importance of keeping not only our physical body pure but also our mind. In church the past few weeks, I've been reminded of the Power of Christ that we as Christians have in our lives and how we are able to use that power to be set free from negative things that are clouding our minds. It is my prayer everyday, that my thoughts will be filled with His thoughts and that I'll be able to keep a healthy mind.

Good Shepherd or Lost Sheep?

God has been challenging my heart in many areas lately and bringing me into a whole new level in Him. One of the areas is in disciple making and rising up to be a shepherd....something like what we call a mentor back home. Anyway, in the process of becoming a shepherd, I went for my 1st session on follow-up. Its interesting cause this time we've not much of a written test at the end but now we've got role plays! haha!

So guess what? I'm paired with Hui Min and one week I'm supposed to be her shepherd, the next week her sheep and this goes on for next 6 weeks! It's just the 1st week and I'm having fun playing the role of a good shepherd......and her as my 'mock' sheep. haha......sheep put to slaughter! Oh no....sorry did I mention good shepherd? oh yes......trying to be like the Good Shepherd.

And next week......haha....my turn.....to be the sheep....will be the 'lost sheep' and Hui Min will have to come and rescue me this time! So interesting and we've to keep a journal of this and it will be part of our assessment....haha! How fun can this get?

Hopefully by the end of this follow-up class I'll be a good sheep and lost shepherd.....oh...what am I talking about? lost.......oh no, I meant that I'll be both a good sheep, who is willing to listen and obey the Good Shepherd and a good shepherd, who is willing to lay down her life for others. AMEN!

Redeeming Love

It has been awhile since a last got myself hooked on a Novel. This time I got myself "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers which was about a prostitute who married a prophet based on the story of Hosea in the Bible. It reminded me about God's love and how many times we've turned away from Him because we don't think we deserve it. Yet, He has been always faithful, waiting for us patiently to run back to His ever welcoming arms.

This story has got some really exciting and dramatic moments when the girl Hosea decided to chase kept running away from him. Anyway, it has been a fulfilling holiday, being able to do some reading, out by the river, with some warmth from the sun and chill from the wind. Some melancholic moment needed away from the busyness when semester starts again this coming week......so yeah, its the end of winter holidays.

Hillsong Conference

Yes, I was at Hillsong Conference last week! On the day I arrived, which was Tuesday, I had the wonderful opportunity to see and hear Chris Tomlin live! He and his band was awesome.... he is one of those few songwriters that I really like because of his lyrics. He and the speaker presented 'Indescribable' which got me struck in awe at the wonder of our God who made the universe. It was a really powerful media and music presentation which moved me especially when shifting from the beauty of the universe and to the scene of Jesus at the cross, taken from 'Passion of Christ'. Indeed, I have an amazing God who loved me and gave Himself up for me! He then ended with his version of 'Amazing Grace' which I really liked.....and was waiting for that. It was part of the sound track from this new movie based on a true story called Amazing Grace. You can check out www.amazinggracemovie.com.

The other bands other than Hillsongs were Steven Curtis Chapman and Israel......who were all really good. I couldn't help noticing the sound system, the musical arrangement and how professional these people are when playing on stage.....they were all so tight as a band and Steven's 16 year old son was a solid drummer!
